A Rocha SA Secretary of the board and KZN chairperson – Christine Cuénod
Christine is the and Secretary of the board and chairperson of A Rocha KZN.
She works as a networking facilitator at Friends of UKZN Agriculture.
“I studied a BA thanks to my love of media, writing and language, and am currently putting it to work at my alma mater; I run an alumnus association that is improving relationships between agribusiness and the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Agricultural, Earth and Environmental Sciences. I also write about research, events and awards in UKZN’s College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science.”
Christine was involved in youth leadership in her local church for many years. She is married to Garth who is also passionate about creation care and a volunteer for A Rocha.
“I became involved in A Rocha a few years ago thanks to a friend of ours who had been involved in the organisation in South Africa, through conversations we’d had with him about the role Christians play in wisely stewarding our environment. Through my exposure to a multitude of environmental issues and expertise in my workplace, and in my upbringing as the child of an ecologist, I was always at some level conscious of the value of the natural world and the threats it faces. The connection of my faith to stewardship and responsible care of the natural world around me was not one I ever heard spoken about in church circles, until I encountered A Rocha, where I felt that I could outwork my responsibility to take action, both for the glory of God and for the sake of the people He created this environment for.”
